    Company Menu (1)

The COMPANY MENU is the first gray bar located at the top of the app. Use this menu to select which company you are working in (arrow next to the company name), access your company and user settings, review your historical data, contact us and support, and search for articles within our Knowledge Base.

    Top Menu (2)

The TOP MENU consists of all options in the second gray bar on the Budgeto website. What can you find/do in the TOP MENU: Budget Name (select a different budget, review list of budgets, etc.), add a budget, rename a budget, duplicate a budget, share a budget, and export a budget.

    Left Side Menu (3)

The LEFT SIDE MENU consists of all the forms you need to fill in order to build your budget/future financial projections, as well as your reports. This menu contains the following sections that will need to be completed:

  • SALES: Allows you to create goods or services and plan their schedule of sale.
  • EXPENSES: Allows you to create expenses, to manage their occurrence, and to choose a payment term for your suppliers.
  • EMPLOYEES: Allows you to hire employees, to identify their first month of work and to manage their salary on an annual or monthly basis.
  • ASSETS: Allows you to enter your capital assets and investments.
  • FUNDING: Allows you to enter your lines of credit, debts, share capital, grants, and tax credits.
  • REPORTS: Allows you to view and print out various professional-looking financial projection reports such as profit and loss statement, balance sheet, ratios, etc.
  • ANALYSIS: Allows you to analyze and compare the variances between different entities/scenarios and time frames.

How to start from existing accounting data

Do you have historical accounting data available for your company? You should start by entering them in the application. If you are using a supported online accounting system, ex: QuickBooks online (QBO), the process takes only a few minutes! If you are not using a supported online accounting system, you will have to input your historical data manually. This process is a little more time consuming so in that case you might want to try to play with the budgeting functionalities (future) first before investing too much time in the historical data (past).

The important thing to understand is that if you already have capital assets, investments, debts, accounts receivables and or payable, etc., you need to enter them in the historical menu. You don't want to budget an existing debt in the budgeting debt menu. The budgeting menu on the left side is to plan the future, not the past.

Here's a detailed article about historical data from our Knowledge Base, which addresses both methods (import automatically or manually).

There is no universal “recipe” to building a budget. The best way to start is by budgeting the known elements, then moving on to the unknown elements
If you already have a list of employees and their salaries, start with the employee menu. Do you have a good idea of what are your expenses, enter them in the expense menu. You already know about a new debt that you will contract, enter it in the debt menu. You have a good idea about the number of products/services and know how much you are selling, as well how much they cost you, go play with the sales menu!

Here are the 5 easy steps suggested in order to complete your budget!
  • Step 1: fill the forms (forms menu);
  • Step 2: see the impact live in your reports (reports menu);
  • Step 3: create budget scenarios (duplicate menu);
  • Step 4: share your business (share menu);
  • Step 5: export your reports in PDF or Excel (export menu).
